Transport Commun
Transport commun offers a sensitive mapping of the issues shaping our present time. Conceived as a two-part exhibition, it creates a polyphonic space where fertile utopias can take root and where, together with the artists, the possibility of a “shared presence”, in the poetic words of René Char, gradually emerges.
For its second chapter, the exhibition unfolds a rich constellation of narratives and forms through works recently acquired from emerging artists, alongside pieces by other creators already represented in the Société Générale Art Collection. Their free and unconventional artistic practices reflect a shared desire to draw from the tangled fabric of reality in order to imagine new ways of inhabiting the world together. Throughout the exhibition’s open-ended journey, one narrative leads into another, while several sometimes converge to create a spectrum of perspectives, contemplative or speculative, critical or dreamlike, all centred on a common horizon in transformation.
The echoes of a fragmented world resonate throughout the exhibition, inspiring works that engage with some of the most pressing issues of our time, including growing vulnerabilities and the many forms of injustice, inequality, and systemic violence. The urgent challenge appears to be the construction of a world that can breathe, both socially and environmentally. The aspiration towards a politics of care and attention extended to all forms of existence, human, mineral, and vegetal alike, is ever present. As a figure of resistance and resilience, the human being is never isolated, and the works on display underscore the shared destiny of humanity, inseparably linked to the ecological future of planet Earth.
In Transport commun, the artists remind us that art is a continual laboratory for imagining what might be otherwise: a living and unruly force that unsettles our certainties and expands our imaginations, inviting us to dream of and shape our intertwined destinies in the world to come.
