Seven New Works
Sep. 17 2011 - Dec. 11 2011
Add to Calendar 17/09/2011 11/12/2011 Europe/Brussels Seven New Works

CURATORS: MARIO CODOGNATO, SYLVIA KOUVALI

Artists: Asl? Çavu?o?lu, Burak Ar?kan, Cevdet Erek, Ergin Çavu?o?lu, Esra Ersen, Gülsün Karamustafa and Nasan Tur

The current geo-political state of affairs places Istanbul and Turkey as a whole at the epicenter of the world's most pressing and relevant issues. Within this context and by contrast the visual arts and other cultural pursuits are increasingly pervaded by a myriad of topics as a consequence of the kaleidoscopic choice of direction in which one can navigate his or her research and poetics. Reality and abstraction, documentary and fiction, social issues and intimate reflections, the general and the particular, the local and the global, all intermingle and form a vision of a fragmentary world – one in which we all live, surrounded and bombarded by motivating forces and information, innovations and doubts, images and noises.

Seven New Works presents the most recent works of seven established and senior artists active in the Turkish art world. Dealing with a diverse range of topics and issues, each piece illustrates a multiplicity of possibilities and contradictions. Through the commissioning of works without a specific theme, Seven New Works illustrates the point that art, like contemporary life, is unable to reach a unity of expression and universality of content, but rather exhibits the territoriality and segmentation of the ray of interest and investigation that exist.
