About the collection

Launch year:
1939

Number of artworks:
2200

Status of collection:
International

Artistic domains and general information about the collection:
Through our commitment to art and culture, we create space for social dialogue. In addition to promoting young artists, mediation and networking are important cornerstones in this area: We make art and culture accessible through the collection, exhibitions and events, and connect people and themes. Cooperation with the Locarno Film Festival and Visions du Réel form further platforms.

Art and culture have a unique innovative power for a sustainable and resilient society: they take up current issues and open up new perspectives. Dealing with art and culture promotes dialogue and knowledge transfer in society.

With the “Artist in Lab” format, we invite visual artists to create themed works as part of the exhibitions. The works will be included in the collection of Mobilière Cooperative as commissioned works.

From 2013 to 2022, we held art exhibitions in the “Art & Sustainability” series in Berne on various topics – from 2019 onwards also at the head office in Nyon.

Swiss Mobiliar's art collection – national and international
We are convinced that engaging with art and creativity not only enriches individuals – it also creates space for dialogue, reflection and new impulses. Because art brings people together, challenges us and opens up new perspectives. Artists have always shown a pioneering spirit – they help us to perceive the world more consciously and strengthen our sense of community.

The Swiss Mobiliar Cooperative’s art collection today comprises more than 2.200 works of art, almost half of which can be seen at our locations in Berne, Zurich and Nyon. The art collection was first established in the 1930s through purchases for prestigious spaces. From the 1970s onwards, contemporary art, mostly Swiss, shifted to a greater degree – with a structured purchase concept from the 1980s onwards. Since 2013, the collection has been part of our commitment to society and has since been expanded to include international positions.

Our online art collection makes the more than 2.200 works available. With filters and cross-references, you can quickly and easily find information about the artists and their works. The collection is constantly expanding – so it is always worth visiting.

Prize(s):

Prix Mobilière
The Prix Mobilière is one of Switzerland’s most traditional art promotion prizes. Launched in 1996 in Nyon under the name “Young Art”, it received its current name in 2004. Today, the prize is one of Switzerland’s most prestigious awards for young art.

With the Prix Mobilière, we honour artistic quality and promote works that address socially relevant themes and thus provide new impetus for understanding our times.

All nominated artists present selected works in a group exhibition at the Art Genève art fair in Geneva – and receive a broad public platform there. The prize, which is presented annually, is endowed with CHF 30.000 and thus makes an important contribution to the promotion of young talent.

Selection procedure
Every year, the company invites seven or eight renowned art specialists and educators to each nominate a young artist representing a certain artistic approach. A specially designated jury then chooses the Prix Mobilière award winner from these nominees. Prix Mobilière
