Motto: WE BUILD CULTURAL BRIDGES

The Central Bank of Hungary’s efforts to promote the arts align with its social responsibility strategy. According to this, its task is to present and support the values of fine arts in Hungary and contemporary Hungarian artists to preserve and perpetuate the traditions of culture and art. As part of this mission – and in line with international central bank practice – in recent years, it has recently established a continuously expanding art collection, which now contains more than a thousand post-war and contemporary artworks.

At the core of the collection is the Neo-Avant-Garde generation of artists, with works by Dóra Maurer, Imre Bak, Ilona Keserü Ilona, István Nádler, László Lakner and Krisztián Frey among others. This generation was not visible for a long time because of the Iron Curtain, and the international art market only took notice of them in the last 5-10 years, as did the big global museum institutions.

However, the works of younger artists such as Márton Nemes, Gerg? Szinyova and Judit Horváth-Lóczi have also been added to the collection, which will expand in the future to focus primarily on the current, emerging generation.

We believe that the international profile and visibility of Hungarian artists should match the high quality of their work. Therefore, one of our main goals is to provide a regional and global platform for the artists of the collection.

Our mission is to build cultural bridges. Our projects aim to connect the art world with the public, the bank as an institution with the art community, and the Hungarian art scene with its global context.
